The testimonials listed below are all organized in the same fashion: First I list the student or client’s name, depending on who wrote me the testimonial (I tried to get as many of the actual students to write them as possible), the student’s grade level, and the subject in which I tutored them. I then give a brief primer about the student themselves, followed by the actual testimonial. The testimonials are unaltered except in a few cases where I made some grammar corrections for the sake of intelligibility. Finally, nearly all of the testimonials included contact information, which I omit here for privacy’s sake. Any specific contact information is available from me upon request.

Student Name: Sarah M
Student Grade Level: 12th Grade
Tutoring Subject(s): Trigonometry, Analytical Geometry, SAT, and ACT

About this student:
I tutored Sarah for a little over one year, during which time she really grew as a student and an individual. As with many students, her abilities exceeded her confidence level in those abilities. She was very bright and fun to work with.

Testimonial:
My name is Sarah and Chris Carlson tutored me for one year. I had never had a tutor before so I was hesitant to have one until I started sessions with Chris. He taught me about organization and looking at each problem individually. He also helped in relating to me in other ways. Chris was my math tutor, yet I feel I learned so much more. During my senior year at Bishop Moore, I improved my failing grade in Trig to ending the year with a B+. Chris also helped boost my SAT score 200 points, so next year I will be attending Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts. His ability to see me as a person and not just as his inferior helped me feel more confidence in my abilities. Please hire him!!

Client Name: Jo V
Student Grade Level: 9th-10th Grade
Tutoring Subject(s): Algebra II, ISEE Test

About this student:
I tutored Jo’s son David for about a year. They were friends of the family, so I felt some added pressure in tutoring David! They generally used my tutoring for assisting David with his homework as well as helping him study for tests- he was very intelligent, usually picking up on difficult concepts the first time through.

Testimonial:
This letter is my recommendation for Chris Carlson, my son’s math tutor. Chris was instrumental in improving my son’s Algebra II grade. His style of teaching was a perfect match for my son, and he received an ‘A’ on his final exam. We would have used Chris for SAT/ACT tutoring in the event that he was staying in the Orlando area. Chris was always prepared for each session and always prompt. I would highly recommend Chris for tutoring. Please feel free to call me with any questions.

Student Name: Michael R
Student Grade Level: 9th-10th Grade
Tutoring Subject(s): Essay writing (AP Human Geography & World History)

About this student:
This family hired me to help Michael be a better essay writer, and since he was taking several AP classes, the focus was on timed essay writing during tests. Michael was a typical gifted kid- too smart for his own good (which I was definitely able to relate to…). We spent a lot of time discussing organizational techniques, both generally and specifically for essay writing. Being able to organize his already-powerful thoughts quickly and effectively made a huge difference for him: he made two 5 (out of 5s) on the AP tests in the classes in which I helped him with his essays.

Testimonial:
Working with Chris has been a great help to my education. Before working with him, I did not think I would pass my AP exam. Because of his help, I aced it. This past year, he helped me to solidify my World History knowledge and helped me to write essays for that exam, which I feel I did well on [this was written before he received his score]. Chris also helped me with my Language Arts writing assignments, helping me to make those essays and reports much more organized and professional. Chris is easy and comfortable to work with, not stressing me out with extra work and too much criticism.

Client Name: Larry V
Student Grade Level: 12th Grade
Tutoring Subject(s): Algebra II, SAT

About this student:
Zach was a typical 18 yr old male- into sports, replete with sarcasm and wit… a bit of a mirror-image of myself so we got along great. He came an extremely long way in his math knowledge and good math habits (the latter of which I put a great deal of emphasis on) in the time that I tutored him.

Testimonial:
Since my son has started with Chris from Ivy Tutors he has scored 100 points higher on his SAT score and his math grade has gone up two grades. Great results!

Student Name: Katie A
Student Grade Level: 11th Grade
Tutoring Subject(s): SAT

About this student:
I tutored Katie and her twin sister Grace both at the same time. They were very clever and fun, and I looked forward to working with them every week. Thankfully for sibling rivalry purposes, their scores went up by similar degrees, however Katie was the one to write me a testimonial.

Testimonial:
After I took my first SAT exam, I searched for a qualified tutor to ensure that my score would rise. I was very happy when I found Chris and learned in no time at all that he was an excellent tutor. Not only did I learn countless things during my sessions with Chris, but I also enjoyed doing so. Chris successfully taught me many things while keeping the sessions enjoyable and fun, which made the time fly by. The true talent of Chris, however, was more clearly seen when I received my results from my second SAT exam. My score improved in every part of the test, while the overall score improved by 140 points. I had reached my goal for the exam, and I attribute a large part of that success to Chris. I could not have done it without him for he is very skilled at teaching others and sharing his own extensive knowledge.

Student Name: Pablo M
Student Grade Level: 12th Grade
Tutoring Subject(s): SAT, Exam studying (Algebra II & Chemistry)

About this student:
Daniel was another typical 18 yr old male, and the rapport we were able to develop with our sarcasm and banter (and debates about the NBA) made him great to work with. Daniel had trouble focusing his efforts on the SAT tutoring, but between the time I tutored him on that and the time I tutored him for his exams, something changed and he was much more able to focus. It wouldn’t be exaggerating for me to say that his ability to work diligently and focus advanced his apparent abilities virtually a full year.

Testimonial:
Chris Carlson tutored my son Daniel in the SAT and also helped him study for his senior midterms and final exams. We were very pleased with Chris’s work: he was always punctual and professional, he was very well versed in what he taught, and he and Daniel got along very well. The tutoring was also very effective: Daniel got excellent grades on his midterms and final exams that allowed him to graduate with a 3.0 GPA. We just wish that we would have started Daniel tutoring since the beginning of his freshman year, because Chris tutoring goes further than just teaching subjects, it proveds the tools necessary for students to improve their study habits, discipline, structure, methods, and techniques, that gives them a better chance to be successful on the ongoing challenges they encounter throughout high school.

Chris is a great tutor and I would recommend him to anyone.

Client Name: Julia G
Student Grade Level: 12th Grade
Tutoring Subject(s): SAT

About this student:
Julia’s daughter Cameron was one of my very first students with my company The Ivy Tutors. It was a great foot on which to start off, as Cameron was a charming student with gifted intelligence, and she scored very highly on her test.

Testimonial:
I was very impressed with Chris: his professional attitude, his range of knowledge, his ability to connect with my daughter, and his end results. I would give him an unqualified recommendation.

Student Name: Kevin M
Student Grade Level: 12th Grade
Tutoring Subject(s): AP Calculus AB

About this student:
I tutored Kevin and his good friend Lizi (see her testimonial below) at the same time. He was an eccentric, intelligent kid with a great attitude and sense of humor. His was the most unique testimonial I received, and rather than asking him to re-write it to be more formal, I thought it would be more generally interesting and beneficial to reproduce his first draft (word for word, to capture his unique style) here.

Testimonial:
I would recommend Chris to teach anyone anything in the entire world. He helped make my calculus class comprehensible/comprehendible (I don’t know which one is right [editor’s note: either, Kevin]). But anyway, Chris is a damn good tutor and I will fight anyone who says otherwise. Plus he is good at drawing and writing numbers upside down.

Student Name: Lizi A
Student Grade Level: 11th Grade
Tutoring Subject(s): AP Calculus AB

About this student:
Tutored along with Kevin M (see above), Lizi was highly intelligent and diligent. Her eloquently written testimonial provides a nice contrast to her friend and tutoring counterpart.

Testimonial:
Chris Carlson was recommended to me by a fellow student in my AP Calculus class. I was having a lot of trouble with concepts and my grades were not what I wanted them to be. Once I began tutoring with Chris I felt much more comfortable in class, I understood more concepts that were taught during class.

One of my favorite things about the way Chris tutors is that if you don’t grasp the concept right away he has a way of inventing new ways to teach it. My grades rose significantly because Chris was so helpful. Chris didn’t simply care about my math grades he cared about my future. He was always giving me advice concerning universities and important tests like the SAT. I was completely confident walking into the AP Calculus exam, I felt that with Chris’ tutoring all year that I was prepared. Without Chris’ help this past school year I would not have been so successful and my GPA would be lower.

If Chris were still available to me next year I would not hesitate to employ his help once again. I highly recommend Chris to any student looking to become a better person all around academically.

Client Name: Eileen S
Student Grade Level: 9th (Bobby) and 12th (Casey) Grade
Tutoring Subject(s): AP Human Geography (Bobby) AP Calculus AB (Casey)

About this student:
This family was neighbors of mine growing up so again I was under some pressure to perform well, but both Bobby and Casey (whom I tutored at the same time with her friend Elisa- see below) were great kids and made my job easy. Eileen’s testimonial takes the form of a letter to me.

Testimonial:
Dear Chris,

This letter is to acknowledge your tutoring service for my two high school students for a two year period. My son was tutored in the 2005-2006 school year for help with his AP Human Geography class. My daughter was tutored in the 2006-2007 school year for help with AP Calculus. Both received weekly tutoring and their grades improved as a result of your effort with them.

My husband and I were pleased with your level of knowledge of the subjects and your attention to detail in the course of the tutoring process. As a result of our satisfaction with your work, I referred you to other friends. [which I was grateful for!]

Thank you for all of your efforts. They will pay dividends for years to come. Good luck in all your endeavors.

Student Name: Elisa W
Student Grade Level: 12th Grade
Tutoring Subject(s): AP Calculus AB

About this student:
I tutored Elisa along with Casey (see above). Elisa was one of the smartest students I had the pleasure to tutor. She was always upbeat and had a good sense of humor, which isn’t easy to do when working on a subject like Calculus.

Testimonial:
My name is Elisa and Ivy League Tutors helped me reach my goals in Advanced Placement Calculus AB. Chris was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and has made me more confident and comfortable with the calculus material. Whether it be reviewing for a test or quiz or working on difficult homework problems, the tutoring sessions always helped me feel more at ease with the class. We also worked on Free Response Questions to help prepare for the AP board exam. Before tutoring with Chris I had a grade of a B for the first semester but after working with him second semester, I was able to achieve my goal of an A. Time spent at tutoring was always productive and encouraging and left me with a better understanding of the problems.

Student Name: Conor S
Student Grade Level: 11th Grade
Tutoring Subject(s): Algebra II

About this student:
As some of my former employees may attest, Conor had one of the best senses of humor of any of my students. He was also a surprisingly deep thinker, and I recall having several discussions with him that veered from math into philosophy, which I always found interesting and beneficial (to myself as well!).

Testimonial:
Chris has not only helped me focus on the specific aspects of math I previously struggled with, but has additionally improved my basic foundation of math skills. Since my tutoring with Chris, the way I perceive math has changed from seeing problems as impossible, to plausible challenges my lessons have enabled me to overcome. Tutoring has improved my grade in math a whole letter grade, a low B to an A, something my own skills could not have produced.

Student Name: Chris M
Student Grade Level: 10th Grade
Tutoring Subject(s): Algebra II

About this student:
According to his parents (and occasionally himself), Chris initially was really against having a math tutor. However, as time went on and we became better friends and his math grade improved, Chris became one of my favorite students.

Testimonial:
Chris Carlson has been tutoring me for half a school year. In terms of academic improvement, my grade point average went from a 76 to a 91, quite a significant increase. Apart from grade average, my understanding of mathematics, and my enjoyment of the class has increased. Chris is not only effective, but also an enjoyable person. Ivy League Tutors, and Chris Carlson to be specific, has helped me greatly in mathematics, and his services are highly recommended.

Student Name: Stephanie C
Student Grade Level: 12th Grade & College Freshman
Tutoring Subject(s): SAT, Physics, & College Algebra

About this student:
Stephanie had some focus issues but was a pleasure to tutor. I started tutoring her for the SAT (and then Physics) her senior year of high school, and then was re-hired to tutor her in College Algebra a year later. Stephanie was another one whose abilities exceeded her confidence level in those abilities, but she was able to end up doing really well in her Algebra class.

Testimonial:
I first started being tutored by Chris my senior year in high school after a miserable score on the SAT. With only about a month of tutoring sessions, I retook the SAT and am proud to say that the results were amazing! I then started having Chris tutor me for Physics; a subject I then thought was nearly impossible. In class I felt completely lost and was often left with a terrible headache. However, after my tutoring sessions, I suddenly felt like I was getting the gist of things. When all was said and done, I ended up with an A on my final physics test!

What I enjoyed most about my tutoring sessions with Chris was that he had a way of putting my hardest subjects into terms I could understand, all without boring me to death!

Student Name: Sean C
Student Grade Level: 11th Grade
Tutoring Subject(s): Algebra & Geometry

About this student:
Sean was another student who was initially a bit recalcitrant during my sessions with him. However Sean made a tremendous amount of progress during the year that I tutored him, and as the grades on his math tests got consistently better, I became quite proud of him.

Testimonial:
My name is Sean, and Chris has been my tutor for a school year. He has helped me so much with my math studies. When I started with Chris my grade in math was a D, but for the rest of the year I have maintained a B average or better. I have enjoyed every session with him, he would in some ways make it fun and now today I enjoy doing math. He has a way of teaching that none of my math teachers would even think of teaching. I have had other tutors in the past but Chris is by far one of the best ones I have had.

Client Name: Charlene N
Student Grade Level: 10th Grade
Tutoring Subject(s): Geometry

About this student:
Charlene’s daughter, Zakiya, had one of the best dispositions of any of my students. She was always happy and upbeat, although not necessarily always about Geometry. Often times she would claim to not understand a concept she had been taught in class, but after some careful “door-opening” she would inevitably discover that she did, in fact, already understand.

Testimonial:
Chris Carlson has tutored my daughter in Geometry for the past nine months. Chris has been reliable and flexible when working with my daughter’s hectic schedule. I have had several other math tutors for my daughter and to date Chris has been the best. He makes her feel very comfortable and is able to explain the concepts in terms she can understand.

I have seen my daughter go from a student unsure of her math abilities to a student who is confident about her math skills. My daughter went from getting D’s on her tests to getting B’s.

Chris has made it possible for my daughter to build her confidence and be successful in math, in addition to performing extremely well in her Chemistry honors class, which required a lot of math.

My daughter and I will truly miss Chris and know that he will continue to be an excellent tutor to others.

Student Name: Luca F
Student Grade Level: 11th Grade
Tutoring Subject(s): SAT

About this student:
Luca was another really smart kid. His major issue with the SAT (as is often the case with smart kids on the SAT) was that he would do most of a problem right but then miss one minor detail in the instructions. Once we cleared this up he did fantastic.

Testimonial:
The Ivy tutor system worked wonders for me, Chris gave me the insight I needed to get rid of my fear of the SAT and replaced my anxiety with confidence. The personal time and attention I received was very helpful, particularly because of Chris’s vested interest in my success. My thoughts became more focused, my analytical skills more keen, and my timing more precise. The tutoring I got not only helped raise my score incredibly on the SAT (about 200 points) but also made confronting any academic challenge far easier and more manageable.

Student Name: Jake G
Student Grade Level: 12th Grade
Tutoring Subject(s): College Application Counseling, SAT

About this student:
Jake was definitely one of the top most intelligent students I tutored. Judge for yourself:

Testimonial:
Chris is an intellectual man who is well versed in all things college. He has prepared me to enter elite universities by providing inside information on what colleges want. He has also prepared me well for the SATs and guided me into a good career choice. The Ivy Tutors provides personal one-on-one training that accommodates to your needs. For example, a well versed knowledge in Quantum Physics gives an edge to the college application; however, high schools are not equipped to teach that information. With the Ivy Tutors, any material and any method is employed to make sure that information is learned in the quickest and most effective way.
