My Expertise

- Mathematics. Math is my strongest
subject as I have had a great deal of experience in school with
math subjects and continue to use math on an everyday basis with
my work (which I have found to be useful when I get the “you
don’t use this in real life…” question). I have had math classes
up to and including Calculus IV. Mathematics subjects are also
the most popularly requested tutoring subjects, so I am
constantly teaching the same subjects and am given the
opportunity to refine my techniques. At present, I will take
students in any math classes up to and including high school
level Calculus.
- Test Prep. Test Prep, primarily
SAT and ACT tests preparation, is the second most commonly
requested tutoring subject, and as such I also have a great deal
of experience tutoring to these tests (which require quite
different approaches), as well as a few others. In particular
with Test Prep tutoring, I am the beneficiary of having worked
two years with many extremely smart tutors whose knowledge I
have compiled into a compact form that I now share with my
students. Think of it as The Ivy Tutors (who have hailed from
Pennsylvania, Harvard, MIT, Duke, Northwestern, and more)
passing their test taking “power” on to you/your student.
- Writing. Writing is another
primary area in which I consider myself to be an expert. I have
extensive writing training from both my undergraduate and
graduate education, and I am required to keep these skills sharp
on an everyday basis with the work that I do. I have helped
several students plan and write essays for both school classes
and college applications (see below), and this tutoring has led
several students to achieve 5s (out of 5) on their Advanced
Placement exams in several subjects.
- College Application Counseling.
This area combines many aspects (including some of the areas of
expertise I’ve already listed above): test preparation, academic
tutoring, application essays, specific strategies on increasing
a student’s chances at being accepted to the college of their
choice, and more. These are all areas in which I have a great
deal of experience, having gone through the process myself and
with several of my students. I also have a unique and valuable
perspective on this matter, having been an interviewer for Penn
applicants from Central Florida.

our tutoring relationships is 100% confidential.
